Researched and wrote the magazine’s first true crime story
In 2021, I covered the story of Mary Scott, whose murder remained unsolved in San Diego for over 50 years until forensic genealogy caught the killer that same year.
My article aimed to retell the story of Mary through the people she knew and loved, as well as shed a spotlight on how society handles sexual homicide.
This project involved scrupulous research and dedication, balancing family perspectives with legalese as the case made its way through the justice system.
Mary’s case was later covered by Cold Case Files in a special series focused on forensic genealogy. I was able to participate in that production as a journalistic expert on the story.
